Water was essential for the survival of a roman city, as it was not just needed for drinking: Fires were roaming frequently, mills needed to be prowered to provide food for the city and emperors used it to enterain themselves and the people.

Because of the dry roman climate, water had to be transported over hundrets of kilmeters via aqueducts to reach a city. But the work does not stop at the city's gates: At a castellum the water was distributed across the city via a complex system of channels and pipes.
